Wolfpack Boys Basketball Gets 2 Wins Heading Into Moratorium

Tri County Northeast Wolfpack Boys Add 2 Wins Heading Into Moratorium

The Wolfpack finally held their first home game of the basketball season on Thursday December 17th at Emerson-Hubbard, hosting the Winside Wildcats.  After a slow start, the Wolfpack was able to amp it up and outscore the Wildcats 28-11 by halftime.  After half, the Wolfpack continued to stay strong only allowing the Wildcats 10 points in the entire 2nd half of the game.  The final score was TCNE- 59, Winside- 21.

Points leader for the Wolfpack was senior Kobe Kumm with 8.  Other key shooters on the team were Brock Mackling, Reed Hingst, Josh Olesen and Anthony Isom each with 7 points.

Reed Hingst led the team in rebounds racking up a total of 5 (4 offensive and 1 defensive).  Kobe Kumm had the most assists for the Wolfpack with 3.  Hingst also led in steals with 4.

Coach Blohm’s Comments: “Out of the gate we came out a little flat and struggled putting the ball in the whole. Our intensity finally picked up defensively which really boosted our offensive output. It is important for us to find that intensity right out of the gate if we want to continue to be successful. Overall, we had 11 players with points, which is always a good confidence booster for the younger players.

For their second win of the week, the Wolfpack hosted the Ponca Indians this time in Allen.  The Wolfpack wanted the game from the start and were only down by 3 at the end of the 1st quarter.  By half time, the score had the Wolfpack leading 19-17.  The 2nd half of the game proved to seal the deal for the Wolfpack.  They outscored the Indians 15-11 in the 3rd and 14-8 in the 4th.  The final score was Wolfpack- 48, Indians- 36.

Leading scorers for the Wolfpack were Reed Hingst and Steven Sullivan each with 13.

Sullivan also had an impressive night rebounding with a career high of 18 rebounds (2 offensive, 16 defensive) on the night.

Reed Hingst led the Wolfpack in assists tallying 4.  Kobe Kumm led in steals with 3.

Coach Blohm’s Comments: “We came out ready to play. Our defense stepped up big and was able to hold them to 8 points in the 4th quarter. Steven Sullivan was huge on the boards with 18 total rebounds, and finished with 13 points. Reed Hingst was able to attack offensively with 13 points and got to the line 10 times. A big reason for our victory does not show up on the stat sheets. We limited their second chance opportunities and contested every shot they took. In the end, we still need to capitalize more at the free throw line, which made the score much closer than it should have been. This was a total team victory. Overall, we cannot be satisfied and need to continue to improve each day.
