Wolfpack Come Up Short in Hard-Fought Rivalry Battle at Wakefield
The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack battled until the final horn but came up just short Monday night, falling 72–68 to the rival Wakefield Trojans in a tightly contested non-conference matchup.
Tri County Northeast set the tone early, taking an 18–16 lead after the first quarter and building momentum in the second to carry a slim 38–33 advantage into halftime. The Wolfpack continued to compete in the third quarter, but Wakefield’s offensive surge proved to be the difference, as the Trojans outscored TCNE 29–19 in the period to regain control.
Despite trailing late, the Wolfpack showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring Wakefield 11–10 and cutting the deficit to four points in the closing minutes. However, the comeback bid fell just short as the Trojans held on for the 72–68 win.
Junior Landyn Servine led TCNE with 21 points, knocking down five three-pointers and shooting an efficient 89 percent from the field. He also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to complete a strong all-around performance.
Devin Reinert added 10 points, connecting on two three-pointers and shooting 50 percent from the floor, while Jude Ridenour added nine. Logan Morgan contributed eight points and went a perfect 3-for-3 on two-point attempts. Blake Kneifl chipped in six points, and Tucker Anderson scored seven, including a three-pointer.
On the boards, the Wolfpack were led by Servine’s 12 rebounds and Thatcher Lamp’s 11, as TCNE finished with 29 total rebounds. Lamp also paced the team with five assists, while the Wolfpack forced turnovers with eight steals and remained active defensively throughout the contest.
As a team, Tri County Northeast shot 47 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc, connecting on nine three-pointers in the game. The Wolfpack also converted 53 percent of their two-point attempts, keeping the contest close against a tough Wakefield squad.
Though the loss was a disappointing result in the rivalry matchup, TCNE showed strong effort and balance on both ends of the floor. The Wolfpack will look to build on Monday’s performance as they continue their season and prepare for upcoming post season play.
