Wolfpack Capture Subdistrict Title in Five-Set Thriller Over Cedar Catholic
The TCNE Wolfpack are subdistrict champions after a hard-fought five-set battle against the Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans on Thursday night. In a match packed with intensity and grit, the Wolfpack pulled through 3-2 with set scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, and 15-9.
After dropping the opening set, TCNE regrouped and found their rhythm behind powerful swings from senior outside hitter Kiya Tornez, who led the team with 21 kills. Fellow outside hitter Joslyn Mackling added 18 kills, keeping the Wolfpack offense balanced and aggressive throughout the night.
The Wolfpack also showed strength at the service line, recording seven aces, five of which came from middle hitter Briley Anderson, whose tough serves helped shift momentum in crucial stretches of the match. Anderson also played a key role at the net alongside DeLaney Fuchser, who registered TCNE’s only block of the night.
Defensively, the Wolfpack showed relentless effort. Mackling led the back row with 20 digs and an impressive 35 serve-receive passes, while libero Emily Mitchell anchored the defense with 30 serve-receive passes of her own. Setting up the attack was Ally Belt, who dished out 39 assists, keeping Cedar Catholic’s defense guessing with her precise ball distribution.
With the victory, TCNE advances to the D1-5 District Final where they’ll face the Shelton Lady Bulldogs at Shelton High School on Saturday, November 1st. A win will secure the Wolfpack a coveted trip to the State Volleyball Tournament.
