The stage was set for a clash of conference powerhouses on Tuesday night at Allen High School, as the TCNE Wolfpack hosted the Wynot Lady Blue Devils in Lewis & Clark Conference play. Both teams entered the match with identical 11-2 records, but it was the Wolfpack who emerged as the dominant force, sweeping Wynot in three thrilling sets, 25-22, 25-21, and 30-28.
From the opening serve, it was clear this would be a battle of momentum and grit. The first set saw both squads trading points with long rallies and aggressive swings at the net. TCNE managed to edge Wynot in crunch time behind the steady hands of setter Ally Belt, who distributed the offense with precision and totaled 30 assists on the night.
In the second set, the Wolfpack relied heavily on their outside hitting attack, and it was junior standout Joslyn Mackling who delivered in a big way. Mackling unleashed a relentless performance, racking up 27 kills while also contributing 18 digs on the defensive side. Her ability to swing with power yet maintain control kept Wynot’s blockers guessing and gave TCNE the upper hand in tight moments.
The third set became an instant classic. Wynot fought back with determination, forcing the Wolfpack to dig deep. The score stretched well past regulation, but TCNE’s serving and defensive steadiness made the difference in the 30-28 nail-biter. Maddie Franzluebbers and Briley Anderson each fired in 3 aces, part of a 9-ace team total, keeping Wynot off balance in the backcourt.
Defensively, the Wolfpack were anchored by libero Kiya Tornez, who was a steady force in serve receive with 25 passes and added 14 digs to the team’s effort. Mackling nearly matched her in passing consistency, tallying 24 serve-receive passes to go along with her offensive firepower. At the net, TCNE chipped in two blocks—one apiece from Belt and middle hitter DeLaney Fushcer—to halt Wynot’s momentum at critical points.
With the sweep, the Wolfpack not only improve to 12-2 on the season but also send a strong message across the conference: TCNE has the firepower, defense, and poise to take on the best.
