Lady Wolfpack Battle Hard, Fall to Wausa in 3rd Round of L & C Tourney

The Tri County Northeast Lady Wolfpack saw their Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament run come to an end on Thursday night, falling 43–36 to the Wausa Lady Vikings in the third round of the tournament.

The Lady Pack kept the contest close throughout, but a slow start proved costly. The Wolfpack trailed 13–8 after the first quarter and managed just two points in the second period, heading into halftime down 26–10. Despite the early deficit, TCNE responded with strong effort in the second half, outscoring Wausa 26–17 over the final two quarters.

The Wolfpack showed renewed energy in the third quarter, cutting into the lead behind improved defensive pressure and more aggressive play on offense. TCNE matched Wausa with 13 points in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings’ early advantage held up down the stretch.

Junior Briley Anderson led the Wolfpack with 11 points, connecting on 3-of-10 shooting and knocking down 5-of-6 free throws. She also pulled down six rebounds to pace the team on the boards.

Joslyn Mackling added eight points and three rebounds while hitting two three-pointers, and sophomore Maddie Franzluebbers provided a spark off the bench with four points on a perfect 2-for-2 shooting night. Aubrey Mitchell chipped in three points and four rebounds, while senior Sam Rastede contributed one point, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

As a team, TCNE struggled from the field, shooting 9-of-37 (24 percent) and just 2-of-14 from three-point range. The Wolfpack went 6-of-11 from the free-throw line. Defensively, TCNE recorded nine steals and forced several key turnovers, helping fuel their second-half rally.

On the glass, the Wolfpack totaled 23 rebounds, led by Anderson’s six and Emily Mitchell’s five. Despite the loss, TCNE’s hustle and determination were evident as they continued to battle until the final buzzer.

The Lady Wolfpack look hoping to get another “W” over the Wakefield Lady Trojans on Monday February 9th.
