Wolfpack Sweep Homer but Lose to Humphrey-Lindsay on the Road
The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack picked up a straight-set victory over the Homer Lady Knights in the second match of the triangular held Thursday, September 3, at Humphrey-Lindsay High School. TCNE controlled both sets to earn the 2-0 win, defeating Homer by identical scores of 25-19, 25-19.
Senior Joslyn Mackling led the Wolfpack attack with five kills, while Briley Anderson and Cora Ridenour each added four. Anderson was especially efficient at the net, recording four kills on just five attempts with no errors. DeLaney Fuchser chipped in three kills and assisted on TCNE's lone block. Junior setter Ally Belt directed the offense with 13 assists.
The Wolfpack also caused problems from the service line, combining for 11 aces. Mackling led the way with six aces, Ridenour added three, and Emily Mitchell and Belt each recorded one.
Defensively, Emily Mitchell paced TCNE with seven digs, followed by Joslyn Mackling with six. Ridenour was steady in serve receive, successfully handling all 10 of her reception attempts without an error.
The victory gave the Wolfpack a strong showing in the middle match of Thursday's triangular before they closed the night against host Humphrey-Lindsay.
The Tri County Northeast Wolfpack closed out triangular action with a hard-fought loss to the Humphrey-Lindsay Bulldogs, falling 2-0. Both sets remained competitive, but the Bulldogs were able to finish strong, taking the match 25-23, 25-21.
Senior Joslyn Mackling led the Wolfpack attack with nine kills on 31 attempts while also contributing seven digs and handling a team-high 26 serve receptions. Briley Anderson added four kills, while Cora Ridenour and DeLaney Fuchser each finished with two. Fuchser also recorded TCNE's lone block of the match.
Junior setter Ally Belt directed the offense with 13 assists and added six digs. Defensively, sophomore Carlee Stanley led the Wolfpack with nine digs, followed by Joslyn Mackling with seven and Belt with six.
At the service line, Belt was a perfect 14-for-14 with two aces, while Mackling went 8-for-8. Anderson also recorded an ace as the Wolfpack finished with three for the match.
Despite staying within striking distance throughout both sets, TCNE was unable to get past the Bulldogs in the final match of the triangular.
