Tri County Northeast fairs well in Bloomfield Invite/Lewis & Clark meets……..

The conditions on Friday at the Rolling Hills Country Club were not a deterrent to a good showing by the Tri County Northeast Wolfpack cross country squads.

The conditions were not ideal, as 48 degrees, thick cloud cover and a howling north wind provided an extra hurdle for runners to navigate.

Nonetheless, the Wolfpack girls team accepted the challenge and had a very impressive day.

Junior Bre Millard, picked up the fourth-place medal in the Lewis & Clark conference as well as the Bloomfield Invite field with a career time of 22:02.  That time is just 6 seconds short of the relatively new cooperative record held by Rhyanne Mackling at 21:57.

Sophomore Alejandra Hermosillo, ran to a 13th place medal in the Bloomfield Invite group, but fell just one place short of medaling in the Lewis & Clark Conference division with a time of 23:17.  Not quite Alejandra’s best time of 22:54, but a good time based on conditions.

Senior Shantel Miller and sophomore Jenni Olson set career bests in their run as well.  Miller and Olson both clocked times of 25:54.

Miller cut 49 seconds off her career best, while Olson chopped 67 seconds off her previous career best.

The boys’ team ran well but were not fortunate enough to gather any hardware.

Sophomore Alex Snyder ran 21:12 and finished 44th in the field of 74.  Devon Lewellen posted a time of 21:57 good for 49th, and sophomore Sean Lawrence finished with a time of 26:27, bettering his season best time of 26:44.

The squads now run on Thursday, October 12th at the district meet in Pender.  A 4:30 start is slated for the girls’ run, followed by the boys.

COACHES COMMENTS:

“Considering the conditions today, the coaches were extremely happy with the results.  The athletes embraced some tough conditions and performed admirably.  Looking forward to Thursday’s meet at Pender, the athletes are going to have some miserable conditions to run in, but if they embrace the opportunity, we hope to qualify some athletes for the state meet in Kearney.  Great effort today athletes!”
