"The American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government, Boys State was founded in 1935 by two Illinois Legionnaires, Hayes Kennedy and Harold Card, who organized the first Boys State at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield."

"At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs."

Brayden McCorkindale

Brayden McCorkindale, sponsored by the Allen Floyd Gleason Post 131, is the son of David and Megan McCorkindale of Allen.  He is a member of St. Joseph Church and has been active in football, wrestling, jazz band, FFA, Quiz Bowl, One Act, Student Council, and National Honor Society.

"To me, Boys Stat is an opportunity for me to grow socially and mentally.  I hope to expand my social network with my peers while getting a depper insight of how a government functions."

Boden Jackson

Boden Jackson is the son of Jay and Holli Jackson of Allen.  Boden will represent the Floyd Gleason 131 at the 2024 Boy's State Conference and is a member of the Faith Community Church in Laurel.  At Allen Consolidated Schools he has participated in football, FFA, and Student Council.

"It is an honor to be selected to represent the Floyd Gleason 131 in Lincoln this summer at Boys State.  This opportunity will give me a chance to learn more about the great state of Nebraska while learning more about the history and the government of Nebraska. It's also a great way to meet fellow Nebraskans and students throughout our state."
