Mr. Smith Receives Grant from Association of American Educators

Association of American Educators Foundation Awards Classroom Grant to Mr. Smith, Allen Consolidated Schools 5-12 Band and Choir Director.

Mr. D.J. Smith, has been awarded a classroom grant by the Association of American Educators Foundation (AAEF).  The grant funds will be used to purchase ten ukuleles for the 5th & 6th grade students.

"Ukuleles provide a different and unique approach to music education," noted Mrs. Smith in his submission.  "With these instruments, we will discuss the cultural background, history, artists, musical styles/genres, and skills that we can develop on the ukulele.  My goal is to spark a musical interest in our students not only while in school, but to create a spark that continues after they graduate."

The AAEF National Scholarship and Grant program seeks to acknowledge excellence in education through highlighting innovative approaches and best practices.  AAE Director of Professional Learning, Melissa Pratt, oversees the National Scholarship and Grant program said, "Exposure to the arts, including music, offers tremendous benefits across many other subject areas.  AAEF is pleased to provide funding toward this effort and help educators realize their vision for their students' best educational outcomes.
