Eagles get back in win column with 70-20 win………..

The Allen Eagle football team needed to get back on track after two tough losses Friday, and that is exactly what happened against the visiting Winside Wildcats.

The Eagles rolled in posting a 70-20 win.  The Eagles have not been at full team strength for the past three games, and still played down from full strength, but a good running attack, and timely pass catches kept the ball in their hands and points being scored.

The Eagles got on the board on the initial drive of the game when Blake McCorkindale raced over from 16 yards out.  Kyle Smith hit Devin Twohig with the PAT.  Following a Winside punt and Eagle fumble catching it, Winside scored on a Brandon Watters 1 yard run to tie the game at 8-8.  That is when the Eagles regrouped and rolled even more, scoring on their next five possessions, to roll to a 48-20 lead at halftime.

McCorkindale scored a second time to put the Eagles up 16-8 on a 7 yard run.  Winside retaliated with a 51 yard pass connection to cut the score to 16-14.  Two Kyle Smith runs of 12 and 25 pushed the lead to 32-14 early in the second period, and then Smith hit Devin Twohig for two more scores to push the lead to 48-14 before Winside hit a 27 yard pass just before halftime to close the margin to 48-20.

Three second half touchdowns by freshmen quarterbacks, Kobe Kumm from 12 and 1 yard, and Reed Hingst, scored from one yard, were the only scores of the second half as reserves took control.

The win moves the Eagles to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in district play.  Next action is Friday, October 13th , at Emerson-Hubbard.  Game time is 3:00 p.m.

Leading the Eagles offensively was Kyle Smith, who rushed 13 times for 147 yards and two scores.  He also went 5 of 8 passing for 130 yards and two scores.  Blake McCorkindale added 105 yards and two scores, Devin Twohig collected four passes for 83 yards and two scores, while Kobe Kumm rushed 13 times for 63 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Smith had 7 stops leading the defense.

“We eliminated some errors, but not all of them for sure.  The defense played more physically today, and will need to continue to do that.  We got some momentum started for next week, and we will continue to work on cleaning up the things that have been our weaknesses, and be ready next week.”
