Eagles fall to Wynot 12-62……..

Wynot handed the Eagles of Allen a 62-12 loss on Friday night, after both teams started slowly.  Wynot scored several times without running a play.

A punt return, kickoff return, interception return, fumble return and safety were responsible for 26 of the 62 the Blue Devils put on the board.  The Eagles on the other hand, were offensively inconsistent blocking and committed two turnovers in the first period along deep in Wynot territory allowing the Blue Devils plenty of chances to get on track, and that is just what they did.

The Eagles trailing 26-0 in the second period, did show a sign of fight, as Kyle Smith hit Devin Twohig on a 32 yard pass.  Moments later, following a Wynot punt, the Eagles came up just short on a fourth down in Blue Devil territory before the half’s end.

After halftime, the errors came fast and bunched, allowing the Blue Devils to score without running offensive plays.

Offensively, Kyle Smith rushed 20 times for 97 yards, and Devin Twohig hauled six passes for 66 yards and a score.  Defensively,  Jacob Williams led the forces with 10, while freshmen, Devin Hoesing, and Isaac Verzani each had 8.  Hoesing added a fumble recovery.

The loss drops the Eagles to 3-1 on the season and 0-1 in district play.

The Eagles host Randolph on Friday.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.

COACHES COMMENTS:

“We played confidently early and held our own, but when a few things did not go our way, we did not stay focused and intense as we need to be.  That opened the door and good teams exploit that.  They were a good team, and if we want to become a team of that caliber, we need to keep intensity high, and errors low….  We have plenty to focus on in the week of practice.  I am sure this game will not define our season, but it will make us aware that there are always things to get corrected and work on.”
